March News
Birthdays
I would like to wish a happy birthday to our friends that have March birthdays!
March 14th: Karly Darrow
March 24th: Diante Hull
March 25th: Levi Green
Student of the Month
I would like to congratulate Jakob Hill for being student of the month for March! Jakob has made grown leaps and bounds this year! He is a hard-worker and has a positive spirit!
Conferences
It’s that time again for conferences! Conferences will be held on Wednesday, March 17th and Thursday, March 18th. There will be a sign-up sheet outside the classroom this week with times that you may meet with me. If there is not a time on the sheet that works for you, please let me know and we can set up another time.
March is Reading Month
Today we have just kicked off March is Reading Month! During the month of March, I have set a reading goal for our class. I would like our class to read 10,000 minutes by the end of March. If each child reads 5 days during the week for 20 minutes, we will meet our goal. If our class meets that goal, we will be celebrating with a fun surprise at the end of the month. The top 3 readers that read the most minutes will also receive a reward. Any child that does not at least turn in one reading log will not be able to attend our fun surprise if we meet our goal. Attached is a note and the book forms that your child needs to fill out and return to school every Monday. Also, if you would like to come in and read a book to the class, let me know! I think it would be fun for the students to hear someone other than myself read a book. Have fun and read!!
Science Fair Projects
It’s almost that time for the science fair! All of the students have great project ideas and I can’t wait to see the final product. Remember, they are due in-class by March 23rd! If you have any questions, please ask!
Reading
We will start our fifth comprehension strategy which is inferring. Inferring is where you use your background knowledge and/or clues from the text to make a reasonable guess about a question you may have or a word that you may not know.
Math
We have been working on our next unit which is division. Students will be learning what division is, relating division with multiplication, and how to divide with and without remainders. Please continue to practice multiplication facts, as this will help with division.
Science
We have just started our unit on Using Earth’s Resources. We are going to be learning about rocks and minerals, soils, fossils and fuels, and air and water resources. We will be doing many hands-on activities to have fun while we are learning!
Writing
We are working on group projects with research the Iditarod, which is a dog sled race in Alaska. Each child will be picking a musher and following it along the great race! Then we will be getting into writing fables. Students will learn the parts of a fable and then be creating their own.
