Fourth Grade

Dear Fourth Grade Families,
When we return form Spring Break, the students will be beginning two new units of study and continuing two units. The new units are as follows:

Language Arts: “Famous American” Research Project
Students will select a famous American of their choice and will be working on their nonfiction reading and writing skills to write a report on their subject. The research will be done in class but additional trips to public libraries are encouraged as our school library does not have resources on every person.  A detailed project checklist will be given to students the week we return from break and work will begin immediately.

Science: Life Science “Ecosystems”
We will be working on our last science unit which covers ecosystems, biomes, adaptations, plants and how humans affect the ecosystem. We will build and care for our own ecosystems that will include terrariums and aquariums. (A needs-list will be coming home soon to help collect materials needed for these.)  Students will also be taking a field trip to the Frandor Petco to obtain more information on relationships and adaptations among plants and animals. This trip will be free; however, I will need parent drivers in order to go. Please see Mrs. Johnson if you are available that morning.

Student Led Conferences:
I would like to thank the parents and students that took the time to meet with me as a group. These are rare opportunities that we can all come together and get your student’s perspective on school and their learning. I am proud of every student as they worked hard to prepare their notes and reflect on their progress and areas they need to work on. Thank you again!

April Important Events/Field Trips:
It always seems to get really busy as the school days begin to dwindle. Please check the April calendar and read ALL newsletters and notes that come home with your student. There will be a whole school penny drive to raise funds for much needed science materials to help teachers make learning more hands-on and engaging. The winning classroom will receive popsicles as a reward! Save up those coins!

Educationally Yours,

Mrs. Johnson
