April Newsletter

Spring break is over and we are back to work in the fifth grade! There is a lot to do before the end of the year, so it is very important to have your student to school on time each and every day. In math, we are finishing up our unit on two digit division and will soon move into graphing along with studying mean, median, mode and range. In writing we are finishing our last trait with the Two Bad Ants story that will be due next week, and then we will be writing persuasive essays. Our social studies test will be this week on Thursday and then we are continuing our journey through American history. We will have our science test next week and move on to studying ecosystems and biomes. In poetry, we are moving on to my favorite types of poems – haikus! We will be reading some of these poems later in the year, so remember to ask your student how they are coming.

New Student
We have our fourth new student this year! Jamie began a week before Spring Break. Please say “Hi!” and introduce yourself if you see her or her family in the hall. We welcome them to the Cole Academy Family!

Earth Day Field Trip
Every year, the third, fourth and fifth grade go to celebrate Earth Day at Independence Hall. This year, Earth Day is on Thursday, April 22nd and we will once again be attending this fun event. We will be looking for a couple of parent volunteers to chaperone in the near future – so please send in a note if you would like to join us!

Student of the Month
The Student of the Month for April is Cody Hilliker! Cody is an extremely bright student. He excels at math, where he often helps other students. Cody worked hard to make the Honor Roll this semester. Cody always keeps us laughing!
