                                          Cole Academy PTA Meeting

 

                                                  Meeting Minutes

                                                 November 12,2009

 

Opening:

 

The regular meeting of the Cole Academy PTA was called to order at 6:04pm, by Shaun Schafer.

 

Present:

See attached sheet.

 

A.   Approval of Minutes

 

The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as distributed by

 

________________.

 

B.   Principal’s Report

-         Parent Teacher conferences are Wednesday and Thursday, November 18th and 19th. 

 

-         Dismissal is 12:15.

 

-         Thanksgiving Recess is also coming up, November 26th and 27th.

 

-November 24th is picture re-take day with LifeTouch, will take place

 

  around Noon.

 

-         December 1st we have an open house celebrating our existence for the last 15 years straight. It will begin at 6pm and is open to past, present and future families.

 

-         December 1st is also our Grandparents day luncheon and Book Fair.

 

-         Cole Academy has the lowest percentage of sick kids in this area. We need continued support to keep healthy!

D.  Open Issues

 

1.   School Carnival – Family Fun night was not as successful as last year. We had wonderful pizza donations this year from Dominos,      Mancinos, Little Ceasars. Petra gave each of them a Thank you   letter.

2.   Teachers Membership  - Petra has the cards and will be distributing them.

3.   Brax Spirit Cups - $640 profit. We should have them back by the end of November/early December.

4.   November 15th we need to file the 990-N online filing for less than $25,000 deposits for the year. Scott is aware of this. 

5.   Holiday Stars will be starting November 23rd.

 

    1.   We will be doing Santa pictures again to sponsor 20 school families.
    1. Pictures will take place Thursday/Friday 3:45-5:45 and Saturday 9-12 in gym. $5 per picture and comes with envelope and card holder. Set up in gym around 3pm.
    1.     In need of turkey’s under 12lbs. Or 9-14lbs, purchasing these items may start now.
    2. Petra is contacting Two Men and a Truck for boxes.
    3. We need monies from holiday stars by December 10th and will   be preparing food December 14th for delivery on December 15th.

Movie Night for 4th-6th Grades

    1. Shaun’s idea to get older grades involved. Popcorn included – Take place on Friday night or a Thursday night when there is no school on Friday.
    2. Rent Appropriate Movie
    3. January 14th is tentative date, will discuss more at next meeting.
    4. Pick three movies and let the students decide.

Popcorn Money – Teachers would like to use it to purchase gym equipment.

  • a.    portable basketball  hoop, 2 soft dodge balls, footballs, flags, hockey pucks, sticks…
  • b.    $330 budget, $247 thus far, plus shipping. Will shop around for      cheaper prices. May be picked up at store to save on shipping costs?

School Store –  Teachers approve.

  • a.    Need list of items/ideas to sell
  • b.    Open in mornings before school until 8:15am.
  • c.    Mrs. Sharrock will do it in her room M/W/F.

5th-6th Grade swim @ YMCA.

    1. Mrs. Sharrock would like to plan for 6 swim sessions at the YMCA for    5th and 6th grade students.
    2. Cost would be $17.50 per student for 6 sessions.
    3. Would PTA be willing to donate money to help cover costs?
    4. If PTA gives $100, the cost per student is $12.50.
    5. If PTA gives $150, cost per student is $10.
    6. Would like to do this in mid January/mid February in place of gym time. 
    7. PTA will balance funds after holidays and see what is left in account.

PTA is donating $100 to each class.

                We must see a receipt first and then you will be reimbursed.
