Happy April everyone. Spring is here! The sun is shining! Spring Break is around the corner! Life is good.
Speaking of Spring break, please keep you child reading this week. Even a week off can slow progress. This is especially important if your child is working to close the reading gap and striving to be at grade level. For math, just play some flashcard games to build speed and skills at adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
Kindergarteners are continuing to work on letters and sounds. We’re identifying beginning and end sounds. We’re working on syllables and rhyming, too.
First graders are continuing to read texts that work on building sight words. We are also decoding unfamiliar words in our reading and learning more strategies
The second graders are working on reading non-fiction texts. We are finding important information in them, and then we’re learning ways to better remember that information. We are learning test taking skills and strategies to insure that tests are assessing what we know and not how well we take tests.
Third through sixth graders continue to come for support and additional learning in classroom curriculum. Some need extra time to learn new concepts. Some need a quiet place to study and work. Some students need concentrated one on one instruction on isolated concepts.
What ever each of your student’s need, whatever will help them succeed in school, whatever helps them be the best they can be, that’s what we want to provide.
Have a wonderful spring
